Alan J. Merrill was born on January 4, 1963 in Blackfoot, ID. He was born to LeRoi and Martha Merrill.  He was the 7th of 9 children. He was raised in St. George, UT. He passed away on April 29, 2026 in St. George, UT.

He graduated from Dixie High School, then joined the Army and served honorably for 12 years.

He married Theresa Thompson on May 9, 1987 in Reno, NV. They resided in Reno, before moving to St George, UT.

Alan was a wood craftsman. He built cabinets in Reno, then worked with his dad building homes, and then began doing his true vocation of driving big rigs. He drove over 2 million miles during his 18 years. Alan always had a love of everything automotive. Especially racing. He spent every weekend he could as a starter for St. George Drag racing on the old, old airport hill. Anything NASCAR he always made time to view wherever he was. Recently he bought a 1978 Lincoln Continental and enjoyed showing it in car shows. To keep busy while undergoing cancer treatments he started following his Grandfather Merrill’s legacy of building clocks. He also made many other wonderful wood crafted items.

Alan is survived by his wife Theresa, daughter Virginia (Cody) St George, son Ryan (Melanie) St. George, daughter Samantha (Dan) New Castle, son Andrew (Nikki) Hurricane, 9 grandkids, 2 sisters and 5 brothers. Alan was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one granddaughter. Viewing services will be Monday, May 4, 2026, from 9:00-10:30am at the LDS Church at 1705 Desert Dawn, Santa Clara, UT.
