ST. GEORGE – Alan R. Nelson, age 91, passed away peacefully at his home in Saint George Utah, on October 13, 2023. Alan was born on January 24, 1932 in Freedom Wyoming to Reed and VaLois Robinson-Nelson.
He married Maria (Mary) Chaparro on June 8, 1957 in Tucson Arizona. They had three daughters.
He served in the Korean War and later moved to Layton, Utah where he and Mary raised their children and worked at Hill AFB as a Safety and Quality Inspector. He retired after 25 years of service and moved to Kanab, Utah and bought and operated several motels and storage units. He later retired to St. George, Utah.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and wood working. He also liked classic cars and motorcycle riding.
Alan is survived by his significant other Wendy Sorensen, his two daughters, Jody (Glen) Hill, Tularosa, NM., Judy (Timothy) Legel, Spearfish, SD., one grandson Tyler (Kelle) Strand, Kaysville, UT., and sister Jennie (Brent) McQueen, Twin Falls, ID.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Val (Helen) Nelson and Charles (Willi) Nelson and one daughter, Trina Nelson-Strand.
“I am home in heaven, dear ones. All so happy, all is so bright. There is perfect joy and beauty in this everlasting light. All the pain and grief are over. Every restless tossing passed. I am now at peace forever. Faithfully home in heaven at last.”
Graveside services will be held on October 19, 2023, at 10:00am at the Washington City Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded.
