Beloved husband, father, and grandfather Albert “Ab” Keith Hedquist, age 89, died at his home in St. George Utah with his loving wife at his bed side. He was born Nov. 16, 1928, at the Crane Maternity Home in Provo, Utah to Eliza Mortensen and Fred Stubbs Hedquist.
Ab graduated from Provo High School in 1946, where he excelled in track, student government and was liked by all the girls. He enlisted in the Army Sept 1946 and served in the signal corp. in New Jersey, was honorably discharged in Feb 1948 and received the WW II Victory Medal while in the service. He attended Brigham Young University from 1948 to 1951, and graduated with a BS degree in Accounting and Business Administration. He married Renee Lewis on 17 Aug 1949 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and they made their first home in Orem, Utah, together they had six children. He received the Orem, Utah ‘Young Man of the Year’ award in 1959. He worked for US Steel in Orem, Utah, San Francisco, California, and Pittsburgh, PA and retired after 40 years of service in 1992. Ab was made bishop in Castro Valley California and had many other church callings including Elders Quorum president, ward clerk, bishop’s counselor, High Council, stake auditor, ward missionary, teacher, most notably Scout & Cub master helping many boys and especially his sons. While in Pittsburgh, his 1st wife Renee passed away from Hodgkin’s cancer. He married Frances Renee Strong Pearson 23 Sep 1978 in the Provo LDS Temple. Renee moved to Pittsburgh with her daughter Cindy where they lived until retiring. Ab and Renee moved to St. George, Utah and lived their retirement years enjoying fishing, traveling, friends and family.
He is preceded in death by his father Fred Stubbs Hedquist, mother Eliza Mortensen, brother Jerold Hedquist and first wife Renee Lewis. Ab is survived by his wife Frances Renee Strong Pearson, and his children: Kristin Albert Hedquist (Kathleen), Gregory “L” Hedquist (Susan), Denece Graham Graddy (Michael), Brian Fred Hedquist (Michelle), Jason Eric Hedquist (LeAnn), Celeste Anne Ficklin (Thomas), Kim Randall Pearson (Marcia), Cindy Pearson, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Friday, Feb. 23, 2018 at 1pm at the LDS Foremaster Chapel, 912 S. 1740 East St. George, Utah.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, Feb. 22, 2018 at the LDS Foremaster Chapel and Friday, Feb. 23, 2018 from 11:30am to 12:30pm.
Interment will be at the Eastlawn Memorial Cemetery, 4800 North, 650 East, Provo, Utah, on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018, at 1pm under the direction of McMillan Mortuary, 435-688-8880. Ab requested that in lieu of flowers “be kind to one another”.
