Listen to Obituary

Alex Seegmiller, 38, passed away peacefully on September, 20, 2025, after a long, valiant battle with cancer. He was a loving husband to Laura Kasandra Matus Diaz, and a devoted father to his son, Avery.

Alex was born December 17, 1986 in St. George, Utah to Brad and Carole Seegmiller. He was the second of five children. He had a quick wit and a gentle soul. He loved playing basketball, watching BYU football, spending time with his family, building Legos with his son, hiking, golfing, and all things Star Wars.

Alex graduated from Dixie High School in 2005 and later earned a B.S. in Accounting from Brigham Young University and a Master of Accounting from the University of Utah, though Alex was a Cougar fan. As a certified public accountant, he worked for the Utah State Tax commission for nearly a decade, traveling the country as a business auditor.

Alex was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Before attending BYU he served a full-time church mission in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. There Alex influenced many lives for the better while gaining a great love for the people from all walks of life to whom he ministered. He treasured the gospel of Jesus Christ and fought his battle against cancer as he lived his life, with unwavering faith in his Savior and the promise of eternal life. He married his sweetheart, Kasandra, in St. George, Utah on August 28, 2021 during the height of the COVID pandemic, and they were sealed in the Cedar City Temple on June 18, 2022.

Alex will be remembered for his kind heart and unwavering faith. He was a quintessential peacemaker, and he loved to serve his family. Every Saturday morning, the smell of waffles, pancakes, or french toast wafted through his childhood home, because Alex was making breakfast. In the afternoons, his family would often partake of his favorite no-bake cookies. He could be a man of few words, but those who knew him will remember his keen humor, hearty laughter, and ready smile. He had an uncanny ability to sing along with any song, replacing lyrics with humorous alternatives as he went. Alex treasured family traditions and holidays. Behind Al’s mild outward demeanor lay a firm sense of integrity and honesty in his personal, professional, and spiritual life. Nothing could sway Alex from what he knew to be right. When he made a decision he committed 100% to it.

Alex is survived by his loving wife, Kasandra, his son, Avery, his parents, Brad and Carole Seegmiller, his siblings, Daniel (Jayrin), Bryan (Hayley), Halie (Max Theobald), and Jenna, and his in-laws, Efrain and Laura Matus Diaz, and Kasandra’s siblings, Efrain (Klarissa), and Karina.

A funeral service will be held on September 27, 2025 at 11:00 am in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building at 1762 South River Road, St. George, Ut 84790. Visitation will be held at the same location on September 26, 2025 from 6:00-7:30 pm and September 27, 2025 from 9:30-10:30 am. Interment will be at Tonaquint Cemetery, St. George, Utah.
