Our beautiful wife, mom, sister, daughter, grammy, great grandmother, aunt, and best friend, Brenda Sue Ficklin, 77, passed away suddenly from a massive heart attack on February 2, 2026. She was born on August 28, 1948, in Brigham City, Utah, to DeVearl Nish and Lucile Hawes Goss.

Mom grew up moving around a lot, never staying in one place and calling it home until she moved to Garland, Utah. There, she went to and graduated from Bear River High School, where she met the love of her life, George R. Ficklin. They were married in 1965 and later sealed in the Logan, Utah temple. Soon after, her husband joined the Air Force, and they traveled all over the world. They lived in Georgia, Idaho, England, Utah, and Hawaii. After the Air Force, they moved to California and eventually retired to St. George, Utah. Some of her favorite places were the European countries and the Hawaiian islands, with Switzerland being her absolute favorite.

Mom started working in the medical field at hospitals in Utah, Hawaii, and California. She formed close bonds with the patients she worked with. She also was a real estate agent for a brief time and thoroughly enjoyed it. But her biggest role was being a mother and wife. She often had to juggle work, motherhood, taking care of the house, getting kids to sports or music lessons while her husband was deployed. She was our classy superhero of a mom.

Mom was incredibly creative. She loved sewing and crocheting, making beautiful blankets and amazing Halloween costumes for her kids. She also made the coolest themed birthday cakes and could cook up the best meals. Her interior decorating skills were amazing. Our home was always so welcoming and cozy. Christmas was our favorite, especially with her award-winning gingerbread houses.

Mom also held various church callings, from being a Cub Scout leader to Primary President. Above all, her family was her everything. She welcomed everyone into her home and was considered a second mom to so many of our friends.

She is survived by her loving husband; son, Dennis (Crystal) of Surprise, Arizona; son, Jason of Logan, Utah; and daughter, Katie (Nathan) of Nampa, Idaho; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren; her father and stepmother DeVearl and Margene Nish of Idaho Falls, Idaho; a brother; and three sisters. She was preceded in death by her stepfather Glen Goss, her mother Lucile Goss, three brothers and one sister.
