Listen to Obituary

Our amazing brother, brother-in-law, uncle and best friend was finally given the peace and rest he desired and deserved as he passed on the morning of October 21, 2026 in Enoch, UT; after many long years of dealing with several health issues he is finally at rest and no longer suffering.

In his words he would say, “My hell it’s about time!”

Bret Ray Green was born on March 12, 1970, in Cedar City, UT. He lived in Cedar City through most of his childhood and later lived in Rosarito, Baja California, Mexico; Overton, NV; Washington, UT; Springdale, UT; and eventually settled in La Verkin, UT for the past 25 years.

He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him. Even though he was most certainly always in some sort of pain he was a kind and genuine friend to everyone who knew him. Bret never complained about his illnesses or asked why he was given such insurmountable challenges. He endured 45 years of severe health problems. He was first diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis at the age of ten years old and his illnesses progressively worsened. He was later diagnosed with Crohn’s disease as well as severe Arthritis, and, in more recent years, as a result of all of his other health issues, he developed Kidney Disease. Due to his extensive health problems, he became very familiar with doctor’s offices, clinics, infusions, lab work, emergency rooms, and intensive care units. In his fifty-six years he underwent over 300 surgeries and became a weekly regular in laboratories, dialysis clinics, and in the infusion chair.

Bret made friends easily and stayed close to those around him, showing how much others meant to him through his interest in their lives and goals, whether they were one of his family members, friends, neighbors, doctors, nurses, or other caregivers. He truly appreciated the life-long help he was given by all of the medical professionals who cared for him throughout his life.

Bret served others by showing his support as a good listener, being a steadfast and reliable brother and a fun uncle who remembered every birthday and showed interest in what his nieces and nephews were doing. He often made treats to show his appreciation to family, friends and neighbors, especially at Christmas.

He was a dedicated son who took care of his mother, Lynda, when she needed help and support while dealing with her own health issues. He hardly left her side when she was in her greatest time of need.

He loved his family and his heritage and was proud of it.

Bret had many hopes, dreams, and aspirations. He always wanted to run a business of his own and had an entrepreneurial spirit. He was able to help his mother achieve one of her aspirations by assisting her in opening and operating a craft store called “Dreams Do Come True” in Springdale, UT. He ran the business side of their store and also helped her create and craft many of the handmade items they sold there. He also worked closely with his brother where they invented and sold their own product and, later on, he assisted his brother in managing his general contracting business on Cedar Mountain.

Bret took on other learning opportunities and business ventures over the years. He helped spearhead the Neighborhood Watch Program and the Gang Task Force in Washington County, UT and served as its Vice President. Additionally, while living in Overton, NV, he worked for a veterinarian he called Doc Chris. While working for the Doc, he started out by cleaning cages, but through his dedication he quickly became her surgical assistant, a job he thoroughly enjoyed. Later on, Bret took on another challenge, where he became a licensed Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker. While Bret worked hard and enjoyed all of his experiences, none of his business ventures lasted as long as he would have wanted due to his health challenges.

Bret loved the beauty all around him and enjoyed taking pictures of the scenery everywhere he went. He was enthralled by the natural beauty of Zion and the other National Parks. He loved to travel and did so with his family as often as he could. Some of his other favorite things to do were hunting and fishing with his brothers and brother- in-law. He loved simply spending time outdoors with them and going on an adventure.

Bret had a thirst for knowledge and continued learning his whole life. He loved music and learned to sing better by singing along with his favorite artists. He was an especially talented poet. His poems gave his loved ones insight into his heart and soul, his spiritual beliefs, his patriotism, and the love and pride he had for his heritage.

Bret felt God’s love for him even through the pain he had to endure. He never gave up and he was a powerful example of strength, courage, and endurance to everyone who knew him. All who knew and loved Bret will always admire him for his powerful example of diligent perseverance. He helped those around him to better appreciate their own health and strength, something he had to constantly fight for.

He had a great sense of humor and a hilariously dry wittiness. His humor oftentimes made the most difficult and frightening situations lighter and more bearable. To those close to him Bret would regularly say things like “I wish you guys would hurry and learn what you’re supposed to from me so I can quit going through all of this.” We suppose we must have finally learned what we needed to!

Bret was preceded in death by his mother Lynda Mitchell Green and his father W.R. “Bud” Green. Surviving family members are his brother Mark Green, his son Cody; brother Todd (Marilyn) Green their children Josh (Angie) Green and Kristina (Cole) Maggio; sister Debby (Lief) Condie their children Tyler (Carla) Condie, Callie (Makay) Chesley, Mitchell Condie (Justin Winsor), & Kaytlyn Condie; as well as his 11 grandnieces and 3 grandnephews. All of whom he loved very much.

We love you Bret and we will never forget you!
