Cynthia Danice Callahan

Cynthia Denise Callahan was born on February 10, 1955, in Clinton Arkansas to Peggy Jean Carol (Smith) Callahan. She was raised in Arkansas as the fourth of eight children. From an early age, she helped her family by picking fruit and cotton, experiences that instilled in her the strong work ethic that would define her life.

Cynthia left school after the sixth grade to help support her younger siblings. She learned early that determination, sacrifice, and hard work were the keys to providing for those she loved.

At the age of 17, Cynthia married Francis Otis Baird. She welcomed her first child, a son, at 18 and her second child, a daughter, at 20. Throughout her life, she worked tirelessly to care for her family. She plowed fields to grow food, operated a restaurant from her home, made sand bottles that were amazing works of art, and built her own cleaning business for homes and businesses. Through her dedication and perseverance, she supported and raised her growing family, including twin daughters who arrived as a joyful surprise when she was 30 years old.

Known to family and friends as Cindy, she was deeply devoted to her loved ones and always willing to help anyone in need. She taught her children the value of kindness, the love of music, generosity, and hard work by living those principles every day. Many evenings were spent visiting care centers to check on former clients whom she considered family. Her passion for caring for others eventually led her back to school, where she earned her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license and continued serving the elderly with compassion and dignity.

In her free time, Cindy found joy in the outdoors. She loved taking drives to explore new places and delighting in the treasures she discovered along the way, from rocks and fossils to artifacts and crystals. You could almost always find her sitting next to a river or lake fishing. One of her greatest pleasures was sitting on a porch and watching a storm roll in. Nature was where she felt most at peace.

Her family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Southgate Assisted Living for welcoming Cindy as family and caring for her with such love and compassion.

Cindy's legacy of hard work, resilience, compassion, and love lives on through her family. She is survived by her children, Mala Ci (Mistie) Baird, Sharena (Zeus & Thadious) Baird, Darleen (Brian) Hafen, and Darla (Casey) Fox, as well as many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family has chosen to celebrate her life with a small private service and will gather again at a later date to scatter her ashes here in Utah and in Arkansas.
