Dane Brand Stewart, 75, passed away on October 1, 2023, in St. George, Utah from pulmonary fibrosis. He was born October 17, 1947, in Mesa, Arizona, to Marjorie Esther Brand and Joseph Leonard Stewart. He married Cathy Louise Bethancourt in the Mesa, Arizona Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 1, 1969. Dane is survived by his wife Cathy, sons Brand (Sid), Bret (Jenn), and daughter Adriane. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Marjorie.

Dane was born and raised in Mesa, Arizona. He started a donut route at age 10 and ate all his profits. He later had a paper route and worked in local grocery stores to support his budding sweet tooth. He attended Lehi and Emmerson Elementary Schools, and West Junior High. Dane loved music and his beautiful bass singing voice graced both the honor and a cappella choirs at school. He was also a state wrestling champion in his weight class during his time at Westwood High School, graduating in 1966. Dane later ventured to England where he served as a missionary in the Southwest British Mission during 1967-68. He attended Arizona State University where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Education (1972) and Master of Arts in Education Counseling (1979). He taught in the Mesa public school system for 12 years, during which time he also finished concrete for extra money during the summer months. Dane then went into sales, customer service, and management at Luce Press Clippings for the next 22 years. He finished out the final 10 years of his working career as a Maricopa county surveillance officer for juvenile intensive probation.

Dane loved to make people laugh and was a friend to anyone in need. He was a favorite uncle and neighbor wherever he lived. He loved camping, riding his 4-wheelers, target shooting, and antique shopping. He also loved to attend car shows and buy classic sports cars. He would find good deals, fix the cars up, sell them, and put the extra money towards his house payment, allowing him to pay off his house years ahead of schedule. He loved to tinker, accessorize, and hang out in his man cave (garage). Dane loved sweets and kept lots of candy around the house to share with all who came to visit. He often sat in his yard and shared treats with neighborhood kids. He also loved the holiday season and would purchase several boxes of chocolates the family ate together throughout the holidays. He left this world with no regrets. The only disappointment in his final days was the thought of missing the upcoming holiday season with his family.

Above all, Dane loved God the Father and our Savior Jesus Christ. His testimony was an integral part of his life. He was known for his long and heartfelt prayers. Dane was loved and will be missed by all.
