David Lyle Brough, the only son of Burnice Coy and LaVern Nielson Brough, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2026. He was born on January 14, 1935 in Garland, Box Elder County, Utah. Most of his early life was spent in Garland, but he did live for short periods in Bothwell, Utah and in Logan, Utah. He graduated from Bear River High School and attended Utah State University and Weber State University. He married Gayle Cannon, the love of his life, in the Logan LDS Temple on November 3, 1954. They spent 71 years together and were the proud parents of five children: Sheri Ann (Garth) Terry, Joye Lyn (Kim) Rolfe, Mark David (June), Don Robert (Nancy), and Brian Cannon (Kim). They also have 19 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. David and Gayle lived in Garland, Logan, Centerville, Fielding and St. George.
While still in high school, David joined the Utah Army National Guard and served faithfully for 32 years. He retired as a Command Sergeant Major. He worked full-time for the National Guard for 30 years, the last 12 years were with the National Guard Bureau in the Western Classification Activity in Salt Lake City. He served as the Activity Chief for 5 years. David finished his employment as a Branch Chief in the Human Resource Office at Hill Air Force Base. He was recognized as a loyal, dedicated, hard-working employee.
David was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he served in many priesthood leadership positions, including Bishop of the Centerville 19th Ward and as a High Counselor. Much of his service involved the Young Men's program where he served as a Young Men's President three different times and also as a member of a Stake Young Men's Presidency. In keeping with his involvement with the youth, he coached youth basketball for over 20 years.
David and Gayle served three missions for the Church, one at the St. George Temple Visitor's Center and historic sites, one in the Washington D.C. Temple and one in the Nauvoo Temple. They also worked for two years in the Bountiful Temple and for several years in the St. George Temple. His life centered around his family and the Church.
David is preceded in death by his parents and his two sisters, Geniel and Carolyn.
Viewings will be held in St. George on Thursday, March 26, 2026 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 881 South River Road, St. George, Utah, and on Saturday, March 28, 2026 from 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 4375 West 15600 North, Fielding, Utah. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the Fielding, Utah Cemetery,
Burial will be in the Fielding, Utah Cemetery, with full Military honors.
