Listen to Obituary

David Ortho Christensen, 71, returned to his Heavenly home on July 2, 2026 in Iloilo, Philippines. He was born January 12, 1955 in Kanab, UT to Ortho and Bernice Christensen. We can only imagine the joy they shared to welcome their first child into Heaven. We are sure Grandma grabbed him first and smothered him in kisses.

David was raised in multiple small towns around Utah. After he graduated High School, he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Sacramento, California. He met his future wife while living in Provo, UT. He married Heather Hunter on August 11, 1978 in the Los Angeles temple. After working construction for several years with his brothers, David became a Piper Fitter and moved his family to Las Vegas, NV. He was proud of the opportunity he had to install the fire protection systems in the Manti LDS temple and to make repairs in the Idaho Falls, Las Vegas, St. George, and Cedar City and Manti temples. After 35 years of service in the industry, he was able to retire from Local 669 Sprinkler Fitters Union. Because David did not see retirement as relaxing on the porch watching the sunset, he chose to start his own business he called DOC the Handyman. He loved to serve his community.

David had a love for life that he shared with everyone lucky enough to have known him. He loved to spend time with his friends going night fishing, razor rides, or helping out on a ranch. He loved his grandkids even more. Every opportunity he had, he was on the ground playing with them- wrestling, teasing, cuddling, reading stories, etc. He was never one to miss out on the special moment of being with them. The grandkids loved to drive his golf cart up and down the driveway with him.

His biggest dream was to serve a mission with his wife. He had a strong testimony of the gospel and loved to share his beliefs. He served in multiple leadership positions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, his last being a senior missionary with his wife in the Philippines, Iloilo, Mission. He had so much fun working with the missionaries.

He is survived by his wife Heather and his 6 children Tina (Kory), Jonathan (Camille), Travis (Annie), Sheri (Jason), Matthew (Britany), Hanna (Chris) and 21 grandchildren. He is also survived by his 10 siblings and many nieces and nephews.
