Edward Keith Smith passed away in St. George, Utah June 24, 2026. He was born in Joplin, Missouri on September 24, 1934 to George Stanley Smith and Eva Elizabeth Teeter. He married Regina Velmar Romney on May 26, 1962 in Los Angeles, CA. She is the love of his life.
Keith reared four children Renee Tammen (Vance), Bryan Smith (Megan), Michael Smith (Jessica), and Paul Smith. He has five grandchildren and one great granddaughter that sat on his lap two days prior to his passing.
Keith attended Rick's College, now BYU Idaho, where he swam a trial lap not intending to join the swim team, but he made the team and ultimately set several school swimming records. He played football as well, and during a game with Dixie College, he was knocked out and never came to until they were on the bus back to Rick's. I guess that's how they did it in the 1950's Keith served a mission for 27 months in Mexico. He and his companion were the first to serve in the City of Culiacan, for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. There are now more than eight stakes in that region due to their pioneering work.
Keith was a General Contractor in the Palm Springs, Coachella Valley area for over 28 years. He remodeled for many people in the Seven Lakes community, including William Holden's wife's, Ardis, who became his friend. He was the Mayor and served as a Councilman of Cathedral City, CA, serving on the original council when it incorporated. After his days building homes, he transitioned to Cathedral City Building Dept as a Plans Examiner. He also was a translator, being one of the few bilingual employees at the City. At the same time, he also served as Bishop and a member of the High Council for the Palm Desert Stake. Keith was an avid gun collector, hunter and scuba diver toting his family on his scuba trips.
Years after they retired, Keith and Regina relocated to Saint George Utah where they've resided since Spring of 2021.
Keith is survived by his wife, four children, his grandchildren and great granddaughter, his six siblings, Sharon Stone (Archie), Tamara Hann (Jerry), Sandra Grant (Michael), Candace Kenner, Daydee Barney (Shawn), and George Smith (Keri), and numerous nieces and nephews.
