Fonda Mae Lay Orton May , 99 years young, died on April 16, 2011 in St. George, Utah surrounded by her loving family. She was born to John William Lay and Cynthia Vivian Allen on January 6, 1912 in Union, Oregon. She was raised in "The Park" and Union, Oregon where her mother passed away when she was 8 years old. She graduated from Union High School. She married Warren Orton on November 5, 1930 in La Grande, Oregon and they were sealed September 4, 1940 in the Salt Lake Temple. Fonda and Warren were blessed with 6 children: Ken (Teri), Terry (Camille), Lanice (Phil) Johnson, Jean (Nick) Snyder, Donna (Bruce) Roberts, and Steve (Sheri). Mom's life centered around her family where she always kept a lovely home filled with the aromas of baked goodies and a yard full of beautiful flowers. Warren passed away on April 26, 1967. Mom later married Rulon Durrant May on June 12, 1980 in Oakland, California and gained a stepdaughter Carol Hunter. Mom and Rulon served missions in the Seattle and Portland Temples. After Rulon's death in 1999, Mom moved to St. George to be in the Sunshine. She was a lifelong member of the LDS church where she faithfully served in many leadership callings. She has loved the members of the Cotton Acres, Sunset 7th Branch, Quail Valley and Green Valley 5th Wards. She is survived by her children, 42 Grandchildren, 83 Great-Grandchildren, 6 Great-Great-Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, brothers: Glen (Laura), Clayton (Maxine), Victor, Eldon (Edith) and sisters: Velora (Glenn) Miller, Pearl (Walter) Hall, Ray (Henry) Linde, Leah (Ralph) Bentley, Doris (Chuck) Poetz, 5 Grandchildren, 1 Great-Grandchild and many friends. Mom, thank you for a lifetime of love, devotion and everlasting faith.


Funeral services will be Saturday, April 23, 2011, 11am at the Green Valley 5th Ward, 124 N. Valley View Dr., St. George, Utah. Visitations at same location, Friday, April 22, 6 to 8pm and Saturday, April 23, 10 to 10:45am. Interment to follow at Tonaquint Cemetery, 1777 S. Dixie Dr. under the direction of McMillan Mortuary 435-688-8880.
