Jerry Border

February 1, 1930 — September 5, 2018

St. George, Utah

Jerry R. Border, age 88 , passed away at home in St. George Utah on Sept. 5, 2018. He was surrounded by Elve and their children. Jerry loved people and was a friend to Everyone. His smile lifted ones Spirit. He truly lived the Lord’s commandment to “love one another.”

Born in Bozeman, Montana, February 1, 1930 to Elmer and Virginia (Hanson) Border. Jerry had one older sister (Dare). Jerry married his sweetheart Elve Blackwood on July 15, 1958 in the Idaho Falls Temple.

Jerry received his Bachelors Degree in Animal Husbandry and his Masters Degree in Animal Nutrition from Montana State University, and his Ph.D. in Animal Nutrition and Biochemistry from Utah State University. Other accomplishments at M.S.U. were being a competitive wrestler, Grand Showman of Hog and Sheep, and 1951 Cross Country Champion in the 2.8 mile run. His experience with livestock at the University level as a research scientist, along with experience in the ranching business in Montana, prepared him to direct all phases of research, education, feed formulation and programming for beef and dairy cattle and swine.

He served his country in Korea as a Company Commander of 213 riflemen and was an Airborne Ranger. (1952-1954)

Jerry was an excellent marksman and loved to hunt, killing his first deer at age 11. He helped his family by providing deer meat for the winter months. His strength was his love of the Lord and service to family and friends. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Being a Temple worker brought him great joy.

Retirement was a good time for Jerry and El’ve riding ATV’s, golfing, playing tennis and pickleball.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife El’ve, four children: Cindy White (Shane), Tim Border (Patricia), Mitch Border (Robyn), and Chet Border (Sarah), 3 nieces: Linda, Ginny, and Nancy, 12 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, Sept 15, at 11:00 a.m. in the LDS Chapel, 450 South Indian Hills Drive, St. George Utah. Friends may call from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday morning at the church.
