Jerry Snider

d. November 12, 2011

Jerry Dean Snider was born March 30, 1929 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the third of four children of Jack and Velora Snider. He and his sweetheart Jeannine Davis were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on September 13, 1948.

Jerry grew up on a tidy family farm in the middle of the Salt Lake valley, where he learned well the lessons of hard work and deep love of family and church, mixed in with a perfect dose of light-heartedness (although the phrase “extreme prankster” might be used by his family members).

Learning was a passion for Jerry. He attended Granite High School, the U of U and the S chool of Hard Knocks for the Self-Taught. He used the things he learned to teach us all.And he wasn’t even aware hs was a Master Teacher. When Jerry joined the Civil Air Patrol, little did he know that his future would soon be bound to the loves of his life, Jeannine and flying…

Jerry’s skills are legend. Over the years, he operated a gravel pit, cabinet shop and showroom, kitchen installation business, and worked with his daughter, Diane making fine hand-crafted furniture. He could do anything and fix everything – and he would do anything for anyone any time.

What a pace Jerry set for all of us! Trying to keep up with him and his adventurous spirit had us all on our toes. He was the consummate Scout Leader - helping his troop make fiberglass canoes, which they ran on the Snake River. Jerry loved the outdoors. He was a pioneer water-skier. He also loved gardening, snow-skiing, hunting, fishing and raising animals. The gypsy in him had us traveling the globe; he would research the local history and we were on our way! His other great passion – spending time with grandchildren in late-night card or dominoes games proved him “the dominator”.

Jerry and Jeannine collected friends in all the wonderful places they lived – Utah, Oregon, California, Texas, Kentucky, and Mexico.

Jerry’s humility probably prevented him from knowing he was one of the world’s great men.

Special thanks to the wonderful care provided by the amazing caregivers from Utah Hospice of St. George, Judy and Omer Huntington, Bryce Beesley and his wonderful weekend caregivers.

Preceded in death by parents, brother John Lynn Snider, sisters-in-law Bette Snider and Phyllis Snider; brother-in-law Bob Davis, son-in-law Tom Schofield, grandson Simon Lohbeck.
