Joyce Henrichsen

May 24, 1931 — January 20, 2022

Washington, Utah

Joyce Harmer Henrichsen, 90 years old passed away peacefully at home in St. George, Utah on January 20, 2022 with her husband by her side.  Joyce was born on May 24, 1931 to Ernest and Stella Harmer in Springville, Utah.  Joyce married her sweetheart Eldon Rulon Henrichsen on her birthday, May 24, 1949, in Springville.

Joyce grew up in Springville and was the youngest of 3 children.  Her father was a farmer, and her mother was a homemaker and an amazing cook, often making dishes only from what the family raised.  Joyce was her dads shadow as he worked on the farm, and she loved spending time with him.  She always had a strong work ethic and began working at a young age.  In addition to helping her dad on the farm, she delivered milk across town for 2 cents a gallon and later, while in high school, she began working at the local café.  Later, she worked at the school making and serving lunch after the boys were born.

Joyce developed a love of flowers at a very young age as she spent time with her Aunt Floss taking care of the yard and gardening at the old Harmer home.  She carried this love of gardening throughout her life as she planted and weeded to create beautiful landscapes at each of the homes she and Eldon built.   She had a green thumb and loved plants of all varieties.

Joyce loved to travel, whether it was to their family cabin at Fishlake where she hunted and fished right alongside her husband and four sons, visiting state and national parks, traversing across the country, or going on exotic cruises.  She and Eldon traveled to many countries during their marriage.  She loved the thrill of going to a new country.  She loved people and always sought to learn more about their different cultures, their history, and how and where they lived.

Joyce loved her family and her grandchildren, she kept pictures of her grandchildren where she could see them every day.  They brought her much joy and she looked forward to hearing from them and learning about their life’s adventures.

Joyce is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints and she served in a variety of ways throughout her life.  She was a wonderful example for her family and friends.  She loved her husband and they enjoyed 74 years together traveling, building homes, and supporting their family.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Stella Laura Beck Harmer and Ernest Harmer, her sister Naomi, her brother Orvil, and her daughter in law Merrilee Henrichsen.  She is survived by her husband Eldon Rulon Henrichsen, sons Jay (Merrilee-deceased), Don, Reed (Linda) and John (Kim) Henrichsen, 10 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

The family will be gathering to celebrate and honor her life at a later date, no formal services will be held.  Mortuary services are being provided by McMillan Mortuary in St. George, Utah.
