Kathryn Adelle Whitman

Age 76

Born 02-08-44 in Bakersfield, CA

Died 12-15-20 in Hurricane, Utah

Kathy was raised in Long Beach, California by Jack and Thelma Fielding (preceded her in death) with her brother, John (preceded her in death) and graduated from Wilson High School in 1964. Kathy married Larry Anderson in 1966 in Long Beach, California. They raised their three children in Long Beach and Huntington Beach, California. Sadly, Larry passed away in 1998. She bravely carried on with her life and career. In 2001, she married Greg Whitman in Los Angeles, California.

Music was a big part of Kathy’s life. In high school she was the pianist for her Choir. She sang in church choirs and was the pianist for her ward and stake.  She held many leadership positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, including roles in Young Womens, Primary and Relief Society.

Kathy ran a child care out of her home and taught piano lessons. She was also employed by LA General Hospital and worked during the LA riots. She went on to work for Long Beach Unified School District as a Clerk Typist. She successfully worked her way up as a School Secretary at Roosevelt Elementary to a Supervising Secretary until she retired from the school district in 2013 as an Administrative Secretary and Assistant to the Director of the Head Start Program. She spent the last 20+ years of her successful career as a very loved and respected member of the Head Start Family.

Her hobbies included sewing, cross stitching, cooking, entertaining, hosting dinner parties, traveling, teaching etiquette, dancing and serving others.

She loved being a mother and grandmother and considered it the greatest role in her life. She was a second mother to many youth including the friends of her children and nieces and nephews. She was embraced by her Anderson family and continued that relationship even after her first husband Larry passed away. She welcomed the children of her second marriage into her life with open arms and support.

After marrying her second husband Greg they lived in Fountain Valley California until they retired in Hurricane, Utah. They built a beautiful home there and have been happy there ever since.

Sadly, Kathy contracted the prevalent coronavirus in November 2020 and passed away in Dixie Regional Medical Center.

She is survived by her loving husband: Greg Whitman; children: Dave (Elizabeth, Briana, Jake) Anderson, Chad (Crystal, Sariah, Emma, Blake) Anderson, Jenafer (David, Britain) Lowe. She also cherished her Anderson side of the family including Richard and Beverly Anderson, Bill and Kenna Anderson, Lynda and Steve Sherman and many nieces and nephews.
