Katie Darlene Dahlstrom

May 22, 1927 — August 30, 2025

Ivins, UT

After many physical challenges and with abiding faith, Katie Darlene Madsen Platt Dahlstrom passed away peacefully in her home with her sweetheart by her side on August 29, 2025. She was 98 years old.

Born on May 22, 1927, in Richfield, Utah, to Mary Jane Baldwin and Nephi Madsen, Katie was the eighth of nine children. She lost her father when she was only four years old, during the Great Depression, and often shared how the love within her family and their faith in the Lord carried them through those difficult times.

Katie lived a full and remarkable life. A successful businesswoman and respected leader in her industry, she also cherished her role as the heart of her family. She loved her family and was close with many nieces, great nieces and nephews. Everyone loved “Aunt Katie”. She experienced great joy in family gatherings, laughter, and stories shared, as well as deep heartache in the loss of three of her four children before her passing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, her husband Daniel Platt, daughter Judith Ann Kosovich, sons William Eugene “Bill” Peterson and Gary Daniel Platt, grandsons Troy Kosovich (Angel) and Pete Peterson.

Katie is survived by her devoted husband, Bengt Dahlstrom, whom she met in 2007 and married in 2008. Their union brought much happiness and companionship in her later years. She is also survived by her son Michael Lue Peterson (Rhonda); grandchildren Melanie Thorn (Jarom), Gordon Peterson (Lisa), Nichole Costantino, Bridgett Peterson (Saralyn), Samantha Wood (Wayne), David Brindley (Cindy), Paula Wilde (Trent) and Brian Platt (Nichole); stepdaughter Yvonne Dunn (Tom) and her children Robert (Madison), Josef, and Kiarra Dunn; along with a large and beloved posterity of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Truly, she leaves behind a legacy of love and faith.

Katie’s sparkling smile, quick wit, and twinkling eyes brought warmth and joy to everyone she met. She had a gift for storytelling and a talent for writing, often sharing poems and reflections on special occasions. Her energy, humor, and kindness made her a treasured friend and family Member.

She lived with grace and elegance—always dressed with style, as though she had stepped out of a fashion magazine. She was also a skilled seamstress, decorator, and cook, generously sharing her recipes and talents with others. Katie loved everyone without judgment and extended kindness regardless of their choices in life.

Her unwavering testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ guided her throughout her life. She often expressed gratitude for the blessings amid trials and bore witness to the Lord’s hand in all things.

Katie will be remembered not only for her accomplishments but also for her deep love of family, her generosity, her sense of humor, and her unshakable faith. She was truly beautiful, inside and out.
