Kirk Sharp passed away Sunday June 10, 2012 in St. George.
He was born March 1, 1956 in Riverside, California. Kirk is survived by his parents Duane and Carol Sharp of Santa Clara, brother Kevin Sharp of Santa Clara, sister Kristy Christopherson of Beaumont, CA., and two nephews and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Herbert and Helen Sharp and Hamer and Alice Thornton.
Kirk was a gifted Percussionist and teacher. He was five years old when he began his music career and it was his life and passion. He excelled in music and science all his life and was also a track star in High School and almost made the Olympics which he was always proud of.
In High School he won the "John Phillip Sousa" award given once a year to one student. He excelled in music in High School and won many awards and a scholarship to the University of Redlands School of Music. He received two masters degrees in Performance and Conducting. He also received a Masters of Arts degree in Music Theory and Literature. He took lessons from members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. He won Professional Training with the "Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestral Training Program" for Young Artists across the U.S.
He was Adjunct Professor of Percussion at the University of Redlands School of Music. He also taught at Northern Arizona University, Professor of Percussion and Assistant Conductor of the University Symphony. He has enjoyed playing Percussion in the St. George Southwest Symphony the last 15 years and Teaching at SUU and Dixie College.
Thanks to all the great care and compassionate service given to Kirk and our family by many people.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, June 15, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Church Rachel Chapel, 3815 Rachel Dr. in Santa Clara. A Viewing will be held an hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be at the Santa Clara Cemetery.
