Louann Kuhlmann

December 21, 1929 — May 24, 2017

LouAnn May Wheeler Kuhlmann peacefully passed away surrounded by her loved ones, at her home in Santa Clara, UT on May 24, 2017.

She was born on December 21, 1929 in Ogden, UT to Fred and Ethel Wheeler. LouAnn was the oldest of 7 children. She grew up in Ogden, UT. She moved with her family to Santa Monica, CA and then to Chicago, Illinois where she met and fell in love with her sweetheart Anton (Tony) Gerhardt Kuhlmann. They were married on June 24, 1950. The couple eventually made their home in Miami, Florida. They traveled to Salt Lake City where they were sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on June 8, 1959.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in numerous callings. She and her husband Tony served a mission in Lithuania in 1997 where she trained Relief Society, Primary and Young Women’s presidencies in several branches, sharing her strong, enduring testimony and working to ensure new leaders understood the importance of the gospel and the programs of the church.

LouAnn was personal secretary to five St. George Utah LDS Temple presidents (Grant M. Bowler, John Russon, T Lavoy Esplin, Conrad Hatch, J. Thomas Fyans) serving for over 20 years before she retired and left her position at the temple to care for her father.

LouAnn loved her husband and family and that love was demonstrated in the time spent with them in her service to them and in the example she set for them. Her dedication to them was her greatest source of joy. She found fulfillment as she surrounded herself with her family: feeding, caring and guiding them with unconditional love.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Brother Fred Wheeler and Sister Marilyn Brush (Ron), by her granddaughter Emily Kuhlmann, grandson Anton Allen Kuhlmann (Jennifer), great grandson TJ Kuhlmann, great granddaughters Caroline Beth and Rose Aileen Kuhlmann. She is survived by her husband Anton Gerhardt Kuhlmann, her brother George Wheeler (Darlene), and sisters Judy Burbank (Don), Denise Schofield (Jim), and Debbie Jensen (Tony); her six children: Cathy Barnes (David), Pete Kuhlmann (Susanne), Toni Carol Wengreen (Chris), Gary Kuhlmann, Maryann Moser (Chris), and Tom Kuhlmann (Leanne). Her quiet compassion and love of her God and family leaves a legacy that will inspire generations to come. Her heritage includes the love and adoration of 38 grandchildren – 94 great-grandchildren – and 1 great-great grandchild.

She will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held on June 3rd at 11:00 am at the Santa Clara 12th Ward chapel at 630 Riesling Ave, Santa Clara, UT 84765 with a viewing from 9:00 – 10:30 am. Interment will be at the Santa Clara City Cemetery.
