Louise Hinckley Crosby, age 74, was born on November 15, 1948, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Arza and Erma Hinckley. She passed away peacefully on May 26th, 2023, at her home in St. George, Utah, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous 5-year battle with cancer.
As the 7th of 8 children, Louise cherished her upbringing in a warm, loving home. She expressed gratitude for her wonderful parents and siblings who made her childhood memorable.
From her youth, Louise loved learning, decorating, dating, and attending seminary, but she especially loved art. Encouraged by her mother, Louise honed her talent for drawing and painting, which was admired by all who knew her. She made the world beautiful through art, love, service, and friendship. Toward the end of her life, one of her great joys was working in her art cottage, especially when doing so involved her grandchildren.
Above all, Louise loved her family and her faith. During her senior year, Louise's parents were called to preside over the Alaskan Canadian mission, and she accompanied them with two of her sisters. After high school, she served with success as a full-time missionary. Louise's district leader in Alaska was Elder Richard Crosby. Following their missions, Richard and Louise fell in love. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1970. Since then, Richard has referred to Louise as “my special angel.”
They raised five children in Las Vegas and, later, St. George, Utah. Louise always insisted that her children were her finest masterpieces. She devoted her life to them.
In 2017, one of the highlights of her life came when she and Richard were called to preside over the Cove Fort Historic Site, a place constructed by her great-grandfather, Ira N. Hinckley.
A 2021 trip to Italy stands out among the many beautiful memories they created. She connected with art and history in the company of her husband, children, and their spouses. She was especially moved by Michelangelo's masterpiece "The David."
Louise was naturally optimistic throughout her life, and she freely embraced the gifts that cancer gave her and her family as she gracefully transitioned to the next phase of her eternal journey.
Louise is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years, Richard W. Crosby, and their five children: Jennifer Wallace (spouse: Michael), Russell Hinckley Crosby (spouse: Natalie), Richard Benjamin Crosby (spouse: Rebecca), Adrienne Lamb (spouse: Christopher), and Rachel Garner (spouse: Rich). She was blessed with 22 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Her loving siblings Jessie Milligan (Don), Alonzo Hinckley (Stephanie), JoAnn Pierce (Earl), Harold Hinckley (Diane), Jean Howell (Rex), Susan Thomas (Jack), and Kay Cannon (Ned), will fondly remember her.
