Martilou Hansen

February 13, 1957 — January 3, 2019

St. George, Utah

Martilou Hansen, known by all as Marti, was born oldest child to David and Maideen Mason in Pocatello, Idaho on February 13, 1957. She left this earth on January 3, 2019, in St. George Utah.

A poem written for her by her late grandma suits her perfectly.

“Graceful as a golden willow by a silver stream,

Straight and proud as the aspen tree that flaunts its golden coins on the autumn air,

Light are your feet as those of fleet gazelle

Beauty of face with dark cascade of hair—

All of these were yours;

But look within and find that these are but the trappings of a lovely soul. “

Your loving grandma,

Ida Williams

Marti was an adventurous soul, always searching for the next memorable moment. Avid photographer of family activities and beautiful sunsets, a talent her family will be forever grateful for. Marti was a creative at heart, talented seamstress, simple jeweler, and witty chef. She loved music, collected pottery, and appreciated even the smallest of artifacts.

Marti was a free-spirit, passionate about life and certainly lived it on her terms. Friend, family or stranger, Marti was the first to offer a helping hand, and opened her home to anyone in need. She loved all walks of life and became acquainted with many cultures from her world travels.

Marti was the definition of small but mighty. As the oldest child of “five under five” and only daughter, her childhood was spent building a deep bond with her younger brothers, they were her best friends, partners in crime and her fiercest protectors, and remained so for the rest of her life.

She was extremely independent and vocal defender of free will. She had a sharp intellect and could recall thoughts and memories at any instance. You always knew her opinion and knew were she stood even if that meant you were on the receiving end of her disapproval.

Marti was extremely proud of her children.  If you had the opportunity to visit with Marti, you knew she had 3 beautiful children and you knew what they were up to. You also knew that she had 4 awesome grandchildren.  She would talk about them to anyone she’d meet. She had a deep love for her family and friends and was happiest when they were gathered close.

Marti was a fighter. She thrived on doing what couldn’t be done. This was best portrayed in her will to live against all odds. For more than 14 years, she defied all her diagnosis. She did not know the word impossible. Brain tumor, brain cancer, bouts of seizure disorder, and finally lung cancer, were her foes. She fought long and hard, and even though she will be sorely missed We know she is now free of pain.

Marti was preceded in death by her father David C. Mason.  She leaves behind her pride and joy - her three children: Malea Hansen Ellett (Brandon Ellett), Shane Hansen (Whitney Oswald), and Kyla Pohlemann; 4 grandchildren: Easton, Maesi, Breckon, and Dawson Ellett; her mother, Maideen Mason; and 4 brothers: Donn, Alex “Lex”, David “Buzz”, and Shaun Mason.

Her family would like to thank her teams of care providers over the years for their love and support in helping Marti fight her fight, Thank you all so much.

A Celebration of Life will be held in her memory for her family and friends on Sunday, January 13, 2019 from 4-6p at Malea Ellett’s home. 376 Pimlico Dr. Saint George Ut.
