Mary Alice Throckmorton Hansen passed away Monday afternoon, July 21, 2025, at her daughter Sheri’s home with her family surrounding her. She was born July 7, 1934, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to George Willard Throckmorton and Dora James Throckmorton. Mary Alice grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah. In her younger years, they moved to Iowa for a time so her father could attend the Palmer Chiropractic School. She talked about her love for Iowa and attending Fifth grade at Lincoln Elementary School. After her father’s graduation, they returned to their house on Blair Street in Salt Lake City, where she lived and attended Granite Junior High and loved singing in the choir. Mary Alice graduated from Granite High School in May 1952. She enjoyed serving as a Stake missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Serving brought her great joy. As a young adult, Mary Alice traveled with friends and family, attended BYU, and loved teaching Ballroom dance. She took a job at Beneficial Life as a keypunch operator and bought her first car, a 1958 convertible hard top Red Ford Fairlane. She loved her red convertible.
In 1959, Mary Alice met Hartly C. Hansen while on a blind double date…he was with the other girl. A few months later, they were married on Feb. 4, 1960, in the Salt Lake Temple. In 1969, the family moved to Bountiful, Utah, where their three beautiful girls grew up: Lori, Sheri, and Joni. Mary Alice loved being a mother! With the encouragement of her husband, she decided to return to school and earn her degree. In August 1980, she graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Education. She started teaching 5th grade that fall, at Leo J. Muir Elementary, where she taught for 11 years. In 1991, Mary Alice retired from teaching, and she and Hartly moved to their condo in St. George, Utah, where they both lived out their lives, loving the warmer weather! After her husband, Hartly, passed, her desire to serve again returned. She became a Missionary at the Family History Library in St George, Utah, for two years. She always loved doing Genealogy along the way. Mary Alice loved being a grandma and great-grandma, and is enjoying being with the ones to come and the ones who waited for her. She lived a full life with a strong faith and testimony of her Savior, Jesus Christ, and was an example to all who met her!
