Max Richards Hymas

Max Richards Hymas, age 90, loving husband, son, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away on July 9, 2025 in Bakersfield, California. He was born on November 17, 1934 in Cedar City, Utah to Charles Alfred and Ruth Richards Hymas. Max was preceded in death by his eternal sweetheart, Mary Alice Yardley. They were married in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on June 5, 1959.

Max is remembered for his kind and gentle nature which helped him in his career as a Veterinarian and throughout his church service. He served as the Stake President of the Torrance California Stake, worked in the Jordan River Temple with his wife and was the Sandy Utah West Stake Patriarch. Max served a mission at age 19 for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in New Zealand and helped build the Hamilton New Zealand Temple. He worked tirelessly on genealogy and indexing and through his unwavering testimony of the gospel, is a strong example of what it is to be Christlike. 

Max is survived by his children, Kelly Ann Martinez, Mary Denise Davis, Douglas Max (Brenda) Hymas, Devin Charles (Jill) Hymas and his 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be held on July 19, 2025 at 11:00 -12:00 pm at the LDS chapel, 1950 N. Coral Canyon Blvd. Washington, Utah 84780. There will be a viewing prior to the funeral services from 10:00 -10:50 am. Interment at the Washington Utah City Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a contribution be made in memory of Max Hymas to the Dementia Society of America by mail to PO Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901, or online.
