Monty Coy Wiley, age 85, passed away June 11, 2026 in St. George, Utah. He was born March 17, 1941 in Texarkana, Arkansas to Leon Arthur Wiley and Ruth Elizabeth Jordan.
He married Genevieve Louise Hook in Arizona in 1960. They had 3 children, Darlene Kay, Angela Joy and Brent George. They divorced in 1980 and Coy later remarried Ida Jean Bale, who joined the family with 4 children, Keith, Brian, Sheila and Richard.
Coy grew up in Ajo, Arizona where he excelled in basketball, playing in school, college, city and church ball. He worked in the Phelps Dodge copper mine in Ajo in the summers while attending school at Grand Canyon College in Glendale, Arizona. He received a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and taught at Sunnyslope Elementary, Cholla Elementary and Moon Valley High School where he taught Physical Education, Driver’s Ed and World History for 27 years and retired in 1994. Then he and Ida Jean moved from Phoenix to St. George where they built a home in Leeds, traveled, and served a mission together for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Family History Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. He had many callings in the church- one of his favorites was working with the scouts. He loved his family and spent as much time as he could enjoying family relationships.
He is survived by his wife Ida Jean and his brother Byron Wiley (Jan) and Judy Hulse (Butch) and his children Keith Bale (Lee), Brian Bale (Carolyn), Darlene Baetz (Kenneth), Sheila Carr (Pat), Richard Bale (Kristie), Angela Graham (John) and Brent Wiley (Stefanie) 27 living grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at 11:00 at 881 South River Road at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. A viewing will be held from 10:00-10:45 prior to the service. Internment will be at Tonaquint Cemetery at 1777 South Dixie Drive under the direction of McMillan Mortuary.
