Norma Loessa Calhoon

March 21, 1938 — June 3, 2025

Brookside, Utah

Norma “Loessa” Calhoon passed away peacefully in her home on June 3, 2025, at the age of 87, surrounded by loved ones. She was born on March 21, 1938, in Levan, Utah, and spent her life showing up for the people she loved.

Loessa was known for her fierce love and loyalty, especially to her children, who she defended and supported without hesitation. She valued family above all else and built her life around it. She also carried a playful spirit throughout her life, never afraid to have some youthful fun, laugh at herself, or enjoy the moment. For many years, her home was the gathering place for Sunday dinners and family barbecues — meals that she often prepared from scratch, always with care and pride.

She loved to cook and bake and was especially known for her homemade pies and rolls. Her kitchen was rarely quiet, often filled with the sound of conversation, laughter, and clattering canning jars. She found joy in caring for others, whether through food, company, or practical help.

She was a mother to five, grandmother to seventeen, and great-grandmother to twenty-five. Her great-grandchildren affectionately called her “Grandma Great” and “Ya Ya” — titles she wore with pride.

Loessa was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, John M. Calhoon; her parents, Heber G.A. and Anna Shepherd; several siblings; her granddaughter, Shannan Lee Carmody; and LaMar Greenhalgh, former husband and father of her children.

She leaves behind a large, close-knit family and an extensive legacy of love. She will be deeply missed.

Services will be held at a later date.
