Penny Barwick

Penny Burrows Barwick, 73, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026 surrounded by her loving husband and children. She was born in Murray, Utah on December 19, 1952 to Ted and Helen Burrows. She married Paul Barwick, the love of her life, after knowing each other only 3 weeks, on March 26, 1979 in the Salt Lake Temple. They have been married nearly 47 years. At the time of their marriage, Penny, who was already a single, working mother to Amy age 4, also became mother to Paul’s 3 little children, Kim age 4, Stephen age 2 and Jessica 6 months old. After only being married one year, they welcomed Sarah. Candice came 15 months after and 4 years later they had their baby P.J. (Oops!)

Penny had a great love for all things beautiful and was very creative. She drew strength from inspiring quotes and scripture and was a prolific journal keeper. She especially loved her work at the hospital. She worked in the PACU where her coworkers became some of her dearest friends. When there was a crying baby Penny was able to soothe and calm, being given the name Baby Whisperer. She was known for being comfort and joy.

Penny taught her family the joy of service. She was a hard worker, a DO-ER. She was a faithful and true example of discipleship, serving our Savior faithfully. She was happiest when she was with Paul, doing anything, as long as they were together.

Penny is survived by her husband Paul, children Amy (Tim) Bird, Kim (Nick) Phillips, Jessica (Riley) Madsen, Sarah (Trevor) Haslem, Candice (Quinn) Fowler and P. J. (McKenna) Barwick. Along with 25 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death and greeted by her son Stephen and her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, January 16, 2026 at the Bloomington Hills Stake Center, 1130 E Brigham Rd, St. George, UT 84790. Prior to services there will be a viewing held from 9:30-10:45am. Interment will be at the Tonaquint Cemetery, 1777 S Dixie Dr, St. George, UT 84770.
