Phil Shuler
Age 71, of St. George, UT. Phil passed away peacefully in his sleep Aug. 14, 2010. Preceded in death by parents and aunts. Survived by daughter Byrd (Kathleen), son Donald, ex-wife Lynn, cousin Phil, and many friends in Utah, Minneapolis, and east coast. Memorial service Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010 at 3 PM at Grace Episcopal Church, 1072 E. 900 S. St. George and later in Minneapolis.

Phil Shuler, formerly of Minneapolis, died in St. George, UT last week after a bout with esophageal cancer and complications thereafter. At his side were his two children, Don and Byrd. In his last weeks he was visited by his ex-wife Lynn and many friends. Phil was born in New Brunswick, NJ in 1938. He attended Rutgers and George Washington University where he received his engineering and law degrees respectively. After attending Rutgers he joined the Army. He spent most of his career at Honeywell in Minneapolis, where he supported many important projects. At Honeywell he met Lynn, and they married and settled in Minneapolis.

The pride of his life were his children, Byrd and Don, to whom he was a devoted father. In addition, Phil was a member of the Town Oaks community in the 70s, 80s, and 90s, a U. S. postal worker, and congregant of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Minneapolis. He was an avid tennis player throughout his life. Many friends will remember his laughter upon victory in a game of tennis. He was on the A ladder at the Norwest Tennis Club, and kept in touch with his Kappa Sigma fraternity as well as many other life-long friends.

In 1999, Phil moved to St. George, UT to retire. He traveled to China, Machu Pichu, and the Middle East. He was a member of the Southern Utah Heritage choir, a passionate gardener, and a good neighbor to many. He died in his home with the care of a talented staff from Intermountain Hospice, and family surrounding him.
