Richard Bennett

Richard Charles Bennett, 78, of St. George, Utah died peaceful at home on February 19, 2018.

Richard was born October 10, 1939 in Pedricktown, New Jersey to Raymond Bennett and Mary Irene Ralston. He married his sweetheart, Donna Ruth Polatis, on August 25, 1961 in the Idaho Falls LDS temple.

Richard joined the Air Force at the age of 17.  The Air Force took him many places, one of which being South Dakota where he was introduced to The Church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints.  He was baptized on February 15, 1959. After 4 years of active duty he worked as a civilian in the Air Force for 32 years as a program manager and received various awards throughout his career. He retired in 1993.  After retiring, he moved to St. George, Utah to enjoy the weather where you “don’t have to shovel heat.”

Richard enjoyed fixing things and had a television repair service.  He had an aptitude for technology.  He had a love for sports and enjoyed going to his children’s games, watching and listening to sports on the television and radio. He enjoyed camping, going on car rides, and had a love of motorcycles. Until breaking his hip in 2014 he enjoyed riding his bicycle and surrey around the trails all over St. George.

He is survived by his wife Donna of St. George, Children Shauna (Dave) Beckett, Brighton, CO; Rick (Wendy) Bennett, Lehi, UT, SueAnn (Kevin) Taylor, Bountiful, UT, and Randall (Traci) Bennett, Ogden, UT; 29 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.  Richard was proceeded in death by his daughter Sherilynn (Kent) Mertlich and his son Ryan (Tonya)Bennett.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday February 23, 2018 at 11:00am at the Morningside Chapel 930 Morningside Drive St. George, UT.  A viewing will be held prior to the funeral Friday morning from 9:30am to 10:45am at the church.  Interment will be in the St. George Tonaquint Cemetery.
