Listen to Obituary

Richard Jay Jensen entered this life through a difficult delivery in the early hours of March  26, 1955 in Salt Lake City, Utah and seems to have gone out much the same on January 19. 2026 in St. George, Utah, where he spent the majority of his life. His father, John Jay Jensen, Called him a tease cat: his mother, Mildred Dorthy Riis, Said he was her big blue-eyed Swede, which at 6'5" and 260 pounds, fit. To himself, he was RJ. Richard lived a simple life and at an early age checked out the maximum allowed library books weekly, absorbing all he could; his brain was constantly working. He possessed an infinite vocabulary, a gift for gab and a type of creative writing that would either leave you in stitches or scratching your head perplexed. His tiny notebooks filled with ideas, dreams and possibilities are endless and discovered everywhere. He wanted to pilot a plane, but that required better eyesight than he possessed so he abandoned that dream and built a small, one-man sailboat which he appropriately named Baby Boat (and in its later years, Patches). His apartment was filled with remote-controlled planes and parts, which he was working on the night he died. He loved the MG he bought in high school that accommodated his length of leg well and kept him mechanically busy. Richard was kind, considerate, thoughtful and with a heart of gold. He was always there for everyone in need. He had various occupations over the years but spent most of his time working with A & B Concrete.

Richard was preceded in death by his father, mother and older brother, Gregory James Newman and possibly a younger brother, Douglas D. Jensen. He is survived by his cat companion, Chi-Menoli who went to the shelter to be loved by someone else, his older sisters Katherine Kent and Janice Redding and possibly younger brother Douglas D. Jensen and their progeny.

Thank you McMillan Mortuary for taking care of the details and Richard's cremation.
