Richard Jay Olsen, 73, passed away on September 12, 2018 in St. George, Utah. He was born on October 19, 1944 in San Diego, California to Jay Frank Olsen and Margaret Balderas Olsen
He married Kathleen Hall Olsen in Las Vegas, Nevada on March 19, 1972.
Richard grew up as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. After moving to Utah, he attended Hillcrest and Jordan High Schools. He was a great baseball player who loved the game and passed the love of the game down to his daughter, Kim, who he coached for 10 years all the way up to her college career. Richard and Kathleen were sealed for time and all eternity in the West Jordan Temple. Richard served in many church callings throughout his life and had a spiritual gift for missionary work. He served as a stake mission president, ward mission leader, and a sunday school president for well over five years.
Richard was incredibly knowledgeable, particularly with business. He was an intelligent and successful entrepreneur, he started with two auto parts shops and later, leading to twelve restaurants spreading across Utah. Richard and his wife Kathleen took a break from running the business to serve an LDS mission in San Jose, California. Later on, they retired in Las Vegas, Nevada where he developed a passion for collectibles and the history of early Las Vegas. Through the years of his life, Richard always had the capability to make others laugh, especially his sweet wife of 46 years. His sense of humor, generosity, and loving-heart will truly be missed.
