Robert Miller

May 18, 1937 — September 18, 2018

St. George, Utah

Robert Laurence Miller, 82, died September 18, 2018 in St. George, Utah. Robert was born May 18, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois to Renda Miller (nee Olschevske) and Samuel Arthur Miller. Robert married Evelyn (nee Modrow) in Chicago on 23 Sept 1960.

Robert was born and raised by a single mother with five other siblings in a poor neighborhood in Chicago, Illinois. He left school at an early age to work and support the family and never stopped supporting the ones he loved and cared about. He was always hungry for knowledge and fed his curiosity about the world with his voracious reading, finishing college, and completing multiple professional education and training courses. He was like a human google!

Robert and his wife traveled the world and visited at least 65 countries over the course of their marriage. They enjoyed hosting Christmas parties, spending time with their children, and enjoying their retirement. Robert loved the sun and many family trips included visits to coastal towns, Hawaii, and the Caribbean but he also loved the desert and was an avid cacti gardener. Robert was a dedicated supporter of Veterans causes including Wounded Warriors as well as receiving many accolades for his contributions during his 12-year tenure as a civilian employee at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center and Marine Air Ground Task Force Training Command in TwentyNine Palms.

Robert is survived by his wife, Evelyn (nee Modrow); son Christopher Miller, daughter-in-law Angela, granddaughter Terrah Starling; daughter Stacey Lindsay, granddaughter Megan Lindsay; sisters Alice Myers, Patsy Vega and Sandra Eckert. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Jack and Daniel Miller.

Memorial Services will be held September 22, 2018 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon at The Church of Latter-Day Saints (small chapel, Relief Society Room), located at 807 Capilla Dr, Washington, UT 84780.

Far away places With strange sounding names Far away over the sea Those far away places With the strange sounding names Are calling, calling me... Going to China Or...maybe Siam I want to see for myself Those far away places I've been reading about In a book...that I took From a shelf... I start getting restless Whenever I hear The whistle...of a train I pray for the day I can...get underway And look for those, castles...in Spain They call me a dreamer Well...maybe I am But I know...that I'm burning to see Those far away places With the strange sounding names Calling, calling me... Calling, calling...me... ♫
