Shirley "Lyn" Wilde Heaton

January 23, 1939 — September 28, 2024

St. George, Utah

Shirley "Lyn" (Wilde) Heaton, 85, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2024, after a long battle with Lewy Body dementia, surrounded by the love of her daughters and beloved caregiver, Emily Slater.

Lyn was married to Dale Heaton for 61 wonderful years until his passing in June of 2020. She is survived by her daughters Jennifer Heaton, Kimberley McCarthy (Brian), and Robin Heaton; as well as her grandsons, Liam and Niall McCarthy.

Born on January 23, 1939, to Dorothy and William Wilde, Lyn was a cherished sister to Maxine Baker, Becky Gledhill, Nancy Paramore, and Jim Wilde. She was preceded by her sisters Barbara Crouch and Jane Greene.

Lyn was well-known for her deep love of animals and her famous chocolate chip cookies. A devoted homemaker, she dedicated herself to raising her children, transporting them to countless activities, and creating magical Christmases. As a special education teacher, she excelled, forming close bonds with her students and colleagues. Lyn also served tirelessly in her church, holding nearly every position imaginable, but particularly loved working with young women and teaching Gospel Doctrine classes.

Lyn will be remembered for her tireless service to others, her fierce protection of the underdog, and the love she poured into everyone around her. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Auberge at Aspen Park Memory Care Facility for their loving and dignified care. They are especially grateful to Rocio Salinas, whose compassion and kindness brought a smile to Lyn’s face every day.

A service to celebrate Lyn's life will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Winchester Hills Chapel, located at 5338 Winchester Dr. South, Saint George, UT 84770. A viewing will take place from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m., followed by services at 2:00 p.m.

A graveside dedication will follow the services at the St. George City Cemetery, 650 East Tabernacle Street, St. George, Utah.
