Signa Davina Nicksic

On July 15, 2026, a light left the world in the passing of Signa Davina Atwood (Nicksic), age 77. She passed in her home surrounded by her husband, Joseph Nicksic, and other family members.

Signa was born in Shotts, Lanarkshire, Scotland on March 27, 1949, the second daughter of Clarence Stanley Seagrave and Ann Armour Hobens. Tragedy struck their home during Signa’s first year when her father was killed in an industrial accident in October 1949.

In 1953 Signa’s mother, Ann, sailed across the Atlantic with three children in tow—Moira, Signa, and Stanley—to marry Alfred Terrel Atwood, a U.S. citizen then living in Cardston, Alberta, Canada. Alfred “Fred” and Ann were married in July, 1953; shortly thereafter he adopted Signa and her two siblings.

At a young age, Signa began cooking, sewing, and cleaning, helping her mother feed and clothe the family, including the three additional siblings—Lindsay, Alan, and Colleen—who were added to the Atwood Clan. In high school she won a contest, sponsored by Winder Dairy, for best original recipe using dairy products. The prize; one year’s worth of free dairy products. In fact, Signa won every cooking contest she ever entered.

As a skilled seamstress, she sewed many barbie’s clothes as well as prom dresses and bridesmaid’s dresses. Most importantly, she loved well and to the core. She was the consummate “mother hen” and hostess, both generous and giving. Ask for a piece of pie, and she served you 1/3 of it. She went about, as all of us should, quietly doing good.

Signa spent most of her career, working as a book-keeper, most recently at the Heart Institute of Utah, retiring early in 2003. She spent all of her life, carefully watching out for those she loved most and best, including her husband, Joseph (Joe) Nicksic, whom she married on April 6, 2002 in Las Vegas.

Joe and Signa lived in Wellton, AZ and spent their summers, travelling in their motor home and fishing at Signa’s favorite lake in Maple Grove, UT. Three years ago Signa and Joe moved to St. George, UT to be closer to family. Signa was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Stanley Seagrave, Alfred Terrel Atwood, Ann Armour Hobens and siblings Moira Jeanette Atwood (Wilding), Alfred Stanley Atwood, Lindsay Terrel Atwood, and Alan Brent Atwood.

She is survived by her husband, Joe (Jospeh) Nicksic and his four children: (Tiffany) Shay Nicksic, Tammara Nicksic (Guiver), Tyrone Nicksic, and Taryn Nicksic-Springer; also surviving is her youngest sibling, Colleen Atwood (Riley) as well as grandchildren, nephews, and nieces, all of whom will sorely miss her.
