It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Steven Eric Gary, 58, of St. George, Utah, who passed away peacefully at home on September 14, 2026.
Steve was born on March 24, 1968, in Pontiac, Michigan. He was born to Susan Marie Atkinson. He spent his early years in Michigan before relocating to St. George, Utah, where he would settle in and plant his roots. Steve attended and graduated Dixie High School, where he Lettered in football and wrestling and took great pride in his athletic successes. He also met and married his high school sweetheart, Tania Bee.
Together, Steve and Tania grew a large family. They welcomed seven children—Joshua, Jorden, Jayse, Amanda, Alyssa, Aubree, and Jayden—and later adopted Jalen and Ahlivia. Together they created a family that would carry on the Gary name and legacy for generations to come.
Steve was known for many things, but one of the things he was most proud of was his incredible talent and dedication to the craft of painting. He owned and operated a successful painting company in St. George and poured countless hours into his business. His hard work and determination were driven by his desire to create success, teach his kids work ethic, and provide for his family.
When Steve wasn’t covered in paint on a job site, he could often be found enjoying two of his other great loves: golf and bowling. He loved golf, and was always ready to play a round—or two. In his prime bowling era, he was a proud member of the 300 Club- having bowled several perfect games and really enjoyed his nights in his bowling league.
Later in life, Steve developed a love for cooking and baking and loved sharing his new creations with strangers and friends alike.
More than anything, Steve will be remembered for his special sense of humor and his contagious and loud laugh. He had a way of bringing his own personality into a room and leaving an impression on the people around him. If you had the privilege of receiving one of his FIRM handshakes, you’ve likely not forgotten it. Steve had a genuine desire to help others. He was the kind of person who would give the shirt off his back to someone in need.
Steve lived a big life, left behind a big family, and created a legacy that will continue through his children and grandchildren. Though he will be deeply missed, the memories, laughter, stories, and pieces of him will live on through his family.
Steve is survived by his nine children: Josh Gary (Crystal), Jorden Gary (Katie), Jayse Gary (Hannah), Amanda (Gary) Allen (Josh), Alyssa (Gary) Torres (Fernando), Aubree (Gary) Stayton (SeanCory), Jayden Gary (Shanel), Jalen Gary, and Ahlivia Gary; his 12 grandchildren; his older sister, Tammara Beard; and his younger brother, Aaron. He was preceded in death by his mother, Susan Marie Atkinson, and his brother, Loren Gary.
A private celebration of life will be held by Steve’s children to reflect on his life, share memories, and celebrate all that made him who he was.
