Terrance Lane Portrey, was born on July 6, 1951 to Clyde Wayne Portrey and Bertha "Ina" Watkins in Bonner's Ferry, Idaho. He departed this life on October 20, 2025, in St. George, Utah.
Terry's early life was rooted in the scenic landscapes of Idaho, where he attended Valley View Elementary and Bonner's Ferry High School. He grew up on Brown Creek Road, in a home built by his father, fostering a deep appreciation for family and the simple joys of life. After high school he entered the National Guard and completed basic training. He then began following his father working in a sawmill. He later worked at NL Industries, north of Salt Lake City, where he was involved in the production of igots. Then he began working the next 30+ years at ABS (Architecture Building Supply) in Salt Lake City. Terry contributed his skills to the company as a driver delivering steel doors, frames, and windows for churches and commercial buildings throughout Utah and the surrounding states.
Terry had a profound love for sports cars, as he would be eagerly awaiting for the newest and fastest car. As a farm boy he had such compassion for animals. He was a huge fan of BYU Football and Utah Jazz Basketball. He delighted in wearing his BYU shirts along with his Coors Lite hat, which often sparked engaging conversations with others. A memorable incident during a vacation involved him unintentionally selecting a blue hat that became an amusing part of his story.
Terry is survived by his beloved wife, Janis Lowe Portrey; his son, David Terrance Portrey; and his brothers, David Wayne Portrey (Cathy), Randall Lynn Portrey (Anita) and Steven Lawerence Portrey (Wendy, deceased). He also cherishes the memories of his late twin brothers, Wesley Earl and Lesley Irvin Portrey, along with his first wife, Linda Margo Swenson; his father, Clyde Wayne Portrey; his mother, Bertha Ina Watkins; his son, Joseph Wayne Portrey; as well as his second wife's parents, Bud Edward Lowe and Sherrie Jean Lee and four sisters-in-law.
