Thermer "Bud" Roscoe Labrum, age 82, passed away on November 27, 2011 in St. George, Utah surrounded by family. Thermer was born February 12, 1929, the fourth of eleven children, to Roscoe and Catherine Hicks Labrum. Thermer served in the United States Navy at the end of World War II and in the United States Air Force at the start of the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged from both branches of service. Thermer married Enid LaRue Smith on August 10, 1952 in Kenilworth, Utah.. In 1960, Thermer and LaRue moved to Kelso, Washington, where they raised their six children. Thermer earned his associates degree from Lower Columbia College and was a shift engineer at Longview Fiber for more than 30- years. He retired in 1991 to care for LaRue until her passing in 1992. In 1994, Thermer married Billie Marie Valentine. Thermer and Billie moved to St. George, Utah in 1996 where they spent 13-years until Billie's death in 2009. After his retirement, Thermer and Billie enjoyed traveling the United States in their RV. Thermer was an avid rock hunter and hiker, loved reading about scientific advancements, and was a self-taught computer genius. Thermer spent the last year of his life as giddy as a teenager because of the girl next door, Ann Funk. They were married on April 1, 2011 and spent much time rock hunting in the desert, playing cards at the club house, and going to dinner. Thermer was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He held many callings over the years and enjoyed his service to others. Thermer was preceded in death by his parents, his wives LaRue and Billie, his brothers and sisters Vera May, Duane Labrum, Jerry Labrum, Shirley Johnson, Millie Haynes. He is survived by his loving wife, Ann; his children Lynn (Gina) Labrum of Kelso, Washington; Debbie Labrum of Orem, Utah; Pam Labrum of Lake Tapps, Washington; David (Kathy) Labrum of Yakima, Washington; Sharon (Jason) McDonald of Gilbert, Arizona; and Norman Labrum of Boise, Idaho; 12-grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren, and his siblings Virginia Nelson, Kenneth “Mutt” Labrum, Arthur Labrum, Mary Orr, Iowna Mackley.
A Celebration of Thermer's life will be held Saturday, December 3, at 11:00 am at the LDS chapel located at 700 E. Telegraph, Washington. In lieu of flowers, Thermer wishes for you to donate to the charity of your choice. Arrangements are under the direction of McMillan Mortuary 688-8880.
