Violet Simkins

April 21, 1924 — June 18, 2016

Violet Rose Garberg Simkins, age 92, returned to the loving arms of her heavenly father, and welcomed by her eternal mate, Morris Simkins, June 18, 2016.

Violet was born April 21, 1924 to Annie and Peter Garberg in Sedro Wooley, Washington.  She lived in and around Arlington, Washington until 1972 when she and her husband, Morris, moved to St. George, Utah to start their own construction company and later built many custom homes throughout the area including their own apartment complex.

Violet was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  She was baptized a member in 1967 and later sealed to her eternal companion on June 14, 1970 in the St. George Temple.

During the first four years of their marriage, Morris was serving in the United States Army stationed in the Pacific and European theaters of WWII.  To keep busy, and to serve her country, Vi worked in a torpedo factory assembling igniters for the war effort.

Vi and Morris were blessed with five children:  Ken, Dick, Roberta, Shirley, and Sue; who were close knit and worked together under the great examples their parents always were to them.

Vi was a hard worker, always the business side of Simkins Construction.  She was the “go to” for getting bids, collecting bills, and managing the apartments.  She loved camping, traveling, riding horses, and the beauty of Washington state, her “home”.

Violet was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, H. Morris Simkins, her daughter, Roberta Woolbert, her mother and father, and older sister Margaret.  Survivors include:  Kenneth (DiAnn) Simkins, St. George, UT, Dick, (Carolanne) Simkins, St. George, UT, Shirley (Dave) Pickering, Enterprise, UT, Susan (Ken) Anderson, Salem, UT, son-in-law Arthur Woolbert, Stanwood, WA, 15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and her sister Berniece Redding, Tacoma, WA.

Graveside services will be held June 22, 2016 at 11:00am at the Enterprise Utah Cemetery under the direction of McMillan Mortuary.
