Boyd Bracken

June 22, 1934 — May 18, 2022

St. George, Utah

Boyd Kay Bracken, 87, passed away peacefully on 18 May 2022 in St. George, UT. Boyd bravely battled years of Parkinsons and Alzheimers passing away after suffering a fall. He was born 22 June 1934 in Nephi, UT to Milow Bracken and Isabell Kendall Bracken. He was sealed to Dorothy Crosby 29 June 1956 in the Manti UtahTemple.

Boyd joined the US Army in 1954, and was trained to be a topographical map maker. Upon completion of training, his first duty station was Korea where he had the opportunity to play baseball for the Army throughout the Asian Pacific region. He was later stationed at The Presidio, San Francisco, CA. He served for three years and was honorably discharged. Boyd studied at The Utah Technical college and worked as a machinist at Kennecott Copper Refinery for 30 years. After retiring, Boyd was a custodian at Cyprus High School for nine years and loved interacting with the teenagers. He felt like it was important for the students to have people they could rely on and look up to.

Boyd and Dorothy bought a home from Garfield and moved it to Magna, UT in late 1957 where he spent many years remodeling and improving it. There they raised six children. They taught their children to work hard with regular chores and gardening. Boyd loved his family and told the best bedtime stories. He spent hours woodworking and tinkering in the yard. He loved golfing, and loved taking drives in the beautiful mountains of Utah. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints He served valiantly in many church callings and loved his nearly eight years as a temple worker in The Salt Lake Temple and two years in the Jordan River Temple alongside his bride. His testimony of Jesus Christ and his love of The Gospel remained with him to the very end even though much of his memory had been stolen from him.

He is survived by six children: Cindy (Jerry) Garvin, Brenda (Mike) Jensen, John (Jane) Bracken, Steve (Karen) Bracken, Bonnie (Jeffrey) Garcia, Heather (Ryan) Allred;  27 grandchildren; and 32 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, three sisters, twin brother, a grandson, and a great grandson.
