Carol (Naegle) Christensen

April 12, 1943 ~ October 21, 2021 (age 78)

Obituary

Carol Naegle Christensen, 78, passed away October 21, 2021, unexpectedly, but peacefully, in her sleep. She was born April 12, 1943, in Toquerville, Utah, to Robert and Adelaide Naegle. She married Ralph Christensen in the Salt Lake City Temple on August 20, 1965. They raised 8 children and were happily married for 56 years.

She was raised in Toquerville, Utah. After graduating from high school, she moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, to attend the University of Utah and work at the Genealogical Library. That instilled a devotion to family history and temple work that continued throughout her life.

Carol was a natural homemaker. She found joy in creating a home where her children and grandchildren wanted to be which included a dedicated toy room, pinball machine, large home library, and a big yard full of swings, slides, swimming contraptions and sandboxes. She was a talented seamstress and cook and was especially known for her homemade rolls, holiday doughnuts and cinnamon rolls.

Carol was happiest when surrounded by family. She organized regular family reunions and holiday parties to keep her large family connected. She took great care in making sure each member of her family knew they were important to her by attending their events and repeatedly reminding them of their talents and strengths. Her family looked forward to her Happy Birthday song over the phone for each child’s and grandchild’s birthday.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various leadership and humanitarian positions. Her favorites were always with the youth, especially the Cub Scouts. She traveled the world with her husband, Ralph, serving six missions for the Church to South Africa, Hong Kong, the Mormon Handcart historic site in Wyoming, the Hill Cumorah pageant in New York, Oregon, and Hawaii. They also served as temple workers in the St. George, Hong Kong, Portland, and Kona temples.

Carol was passionate about gardening and her yard and vegetable gardens showed her talent. She was our personal garden Almanac and could answer almost any plant question. If she didn’t know the answer, she would find out. She loved learning and books, and could often be found reading. She especially enjoyed her work as a librarian in Hurricane, Utah. She was always working on a project (usually for her grandchildren) and she was not afraid to try new things. She passed this spirit onto her children and grandchildren because “Grandma can do anything.”

She will be remembered for her kind and generous heart, her lifelong devotion to her family, and for her fun-loving, adventurous spirit. She is survived by her husband, Ralph Christensen; 8 children, Marie (Jason), Rene (Cori), Lori (Jeff), Kari (Don), Amy (Art), Susan (Kimbol), Lonnie (Katie), and Callie (John); 38 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Jim and John Naegle.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 28, 2021, 11:00 A.M. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel at 441 S 2200 E, St. George, UT 84790. Visitation will be from 9:00-10:30 A.M. at the same location. Interment will be at the Toquerville Cemetery.
