David Koerner

July 2, 1925 — May 15, 2020

St. George, Utah

David Milton Koerner passed away on Friday, May 15, 2020 at his home in St. George, Utah at the age of 94, after a long and very busy life. David was born on July 2, 1925 in Dubuque, Iowa to Edward John Koerner and Lucy Wiedemann Koerner.  He was sealed to Wanda Larson in the Manti Temple on December 27, 1952. David and Wanda are the parents of six children and their posterity includes 23 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, three great- great grandchildren with five more babies on the way. Dad's greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends.

David served in World War II in the Army Air Corps as a tail gunner in the B-17 Flying Fortress.  He didn't talk about the fighting much, but he had a lot of funny stories about life in the Army.  After returning home he moved to California with his parents and there he joined The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints in 1950. He met Wanda Larson soon after and they were married about two years later.

He had a lot of jobs in his life but he loved wood working the most and was always helping make or fix things for family and neighbors. He was raised with a strong work ethic and this became his approach to life. He just kept on working until he couldn't any more.  He was friendly and made friends easily and was happiest when he was helping and serving others.  He had numerous callings in the church, but his favorite was greeter.  He loved to say hi to everyone as they entered the chapel and give candy to the kids.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Wanda, his second wife Lorraine,  his daughter Sharman and his sister Ruth. He is survived by five children, Kaye May (Fred), Rosalie Koerner, Valerie Duffy (Tom), Dean Koerner (Teresa) and Todd Koerner (Nancy) as well as all of his grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

We will always remember his mischievous smile and quick wit.  As well as the example of his strong, ever busy, gentle and loving hands.

He has filled the measure of his creation...

He has fought the good fight,

He has finished the course,

He has kept the faith.
