Duane Scott Schmidt

July 18, 1961 ~ August 26, 2021 (age 60)

Obituary

Duane Scott Schmidt, age 60, passed away peacefully in the arms of his wife, Julie Parker Schmidt on Thursday, August 26, 2021, while their wedding song played in the background. His children returned home to spend the last few days of his life with him. In July of 2021, Duane was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer known as dedifferentiated liposarcoma. The cancer spread aggressively despite undergoing a major surgery at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Gilbert, Arizona on July 27, 2021.

Duane was born in Baltimore, MD on July 18, 1961 to Frank Martin Schmidt and Katherine Elizabeth Pasquinelli Schmidt. He is survived by both parents, his wife - Julie, children -Zachary, Brianna (Justin - fiancée), and Matthew; granddaughter - Kya, brother - Frank (Susan),sister - Jane and many nieces and nephews.

Duane was an entrepreneur from the young age of 18. He owned and operated several businesses in Maryland including Rosedale Landscaping, Rosedale Environmental Services and Humpty Dumpsters. After moving to Utah, Duane owned and operated Humpty Dumpsters and Concrete Taxi. He also joined the Coalville City Council and was then elected Coalville City Mayor for 8 consecutive years. He was the hardest working, most selfless and dedicated person.

Duane was a lifelong fan of the Baltimore Orioles and Baltimore Ravens. He enjoyed conversing and joking with his friends who were rival sports fans. His hobbies included antique car restoration, big game hunting, fishing, camping, and gardening. He was an all-around handy man and knew how to do everything. He loved days spent swimming in the pool and barbequing, and most of all, collecting boy scout patches. Duane earned the rank of EagleScout and was a member of the Order of the Arrow, Nentico Lodge 12.

The lessons that he learned at a young age manifested through all his life’s pursuits. He used his platform as a successful businessman to do so much more. He was a caring mentor and friend, an honest politician, a true American, and most importantly a dedicated father and loving husband. Family was his everything and everything he did he did because of them. He was genuine, caring, loving, and approachable. He engaged with people, made people feel special, and left an everlasting imprint on the lives he touched. He was loved by so many. Not only was he a great man, but he was one of a kind.

He will be greatly missed. Rest in peace Duane, until we meet again. Forever and always, your loving wife, Julie.

Duane requested no services or celebration of life. He did ask the week before he passed that everyone come together for a swim party and BBQ. Next summer when our hearts have had some time to heal we will rejoice in his memories and celebrate the legacy of my one true love.
