Edmond Tucker

May 20, 1936 — September 18, 2020

St. George, Utah

Edmond Earl Tucker, age 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on September 18, 2020 in St. George, Utah.

Ed was born in Price, Utah on May 20,1936 to Evelyn and Bud Tucker. His family moved to Salt Lake City when he was a child and he graduated from East High School. He joined the Army Reserve in 1951 at the age of 16 and served for over a decade as a radio operator before an Honorable Discharge. He also lived in Denmark and was fluent in Danish. He later re-enlisted in the Utah Army National Guard where he received the rank of Staff Sergeant in the Military Intelligence and Linguistics unit. He learned to speak Ukrainian and also served as a Chaplain. He received multiple commendations and glowing reviews before a second Honorable Discharge. Ed always spoke fondly of his time in the Army, and truly believed in the promise of the USA.

Ed graduated from the University of Utah with a bachelor's degree in 1965 and a Masters of Social Work in 1967. He dedicated his life and career to helping others, especially children, as a clinical social worker.

Ed married Gladys May Moxon of Leeds, Yorkshire, England August 28, 1961. They were later divorced.  Ed is survived by his five children Karen Tucker (Mike) Steele, Lisa Tucker (Mike) Darling, Alison Tucker (Grant) Brown, Mark Travers (Sarah) Tucker all of Salt Lake City, UT and David Webster Tucker of Seattle, WA. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Matt Steele, Lauren Steele (Devin) Dunn, Ethan (Elisa) Darling, Shannon (Dani) Brown and Andrew Brown, as well as one great-grandson George Dunn.

Ed was an intellectually curious man and avid reader up until his unexpected illness, and he loved classical music. He spent the last two decades of life living in his beloved Southern Utah and was an enthusiastic hiker, rock-hound, and nature lover. It is a tribute to Ed that his kids remain good friends as adults, as are his grandchildren. Ed’s death was accompanied by plenty of laughs, tears, and contemplation from his children and strengthened our bond as siblings. He always had a wicked sense of humor and we are sure he would especially appreciate the laughter.
