St. George/South Jordan, Utah

Lucille Pearce was born in Murray, Utah on August 20, 1926 to William George Godfrey and Lillie Hazel Hansen Godfrey. A short time later, the family moved to Draper, Utah. She started kindergarten at Draper School. When she was in 2nd grade, the family moved to Midvale, and she attended the elementary school there until the 5th grade, when they again moved, this time to Driggs Avenue in Salt Lake where she attended Columbus Grade School, Irving Jr. High and she graduated in 1943 from South high.

Her first employment was at the Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Co. as a long distance operator. It was war time (2nd world war) and the hours were varied and they often worked 7 days a week because of the shortage of workers and the high volume of business.

In the fall of 1946, Glen Leon Pearce had been released from service in the U. S. Navy. They had known each other and attended the same ward for years, but had never dated. After his release, they began dating and were married on June 30, 1947 in the Logan Utah Temple because the Salt Lake Temple was closed that day. They lived in Salt Lake until 1955, then moved to California and were there 34 years. Glen retired in 1989 and they moved to St. George. Lucille was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She had been a teacher in Jr Sunday School and again when it was changed to Primary. She also had served as a teacher in the Young Womens Organization, then known as Mutual. She enjoyed working with the Young Women. The organization she loved most to work in though was Relief Society. She was a visiting teacher from 1955 on. She had taught various classes, served as Stake Relief Society secretary, was a counselor to 2 Ward presidents and one Stake Relief Society President and was President in the Ward for 5 years. During the last of those years, Glen served as Bishop.

After their move to St George, they served a mission in the St George Visitors Center Mission. Her longest calling, other than visiting teaching, was Visiting Teaching Coordinator. She held that position under 5 or 6 different Presidents. She and Glen enjoyed traveling and made several travel trailer trips. Their most outstanding trip however was to Europe in the year 2000.
