Johnnie "John" Arlen Castor finished his final race on July 23, 2020 dying peacefully at home with his wife and members of his family near him. Most will remember John as a devoted husband to Nan, his wife of 44 years, and for his love of American classic cars and drag racing.
John served his country as a Navy Sea Bee from 1956 to 1962, following which he worked in California as a lineman, and eventually a senior supervisor, for a telephone company until his retirement. John and Nan moved to Las Vegas where they lived for over twenty years. For a number of years, you could find John serving up drinks as a bartender for the Barbary Coast casino. They eventually relocated to the St. George area in Utah where John enjoyed the remainder of his life.
John loved animals and always kept several cherished pets. He also had a deep appreciation for jazz music and spent many years playing drums with a small jazz ensemble. Most recently, John enjoyed showing his 1929 Ford Roadster at a number of car shows around the country, and meeting regularly for coffee with his car club buddies. John spent many happy occasions traveling near and far with Nan, most often to attend countless family events and gatherings. He was full of life and always very determined - in a word, John had "grit."
John is survived by his wife Nan, brother Ronald (Jean), son Todd (Sylvia), daughter Melinda (Sean), stepsons Ron (Kelli), Kirk (Kelly), David and Kevin (Jenny), stepdaughter Susan, fifteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He will forever be loved, remembered, and missed by all.
