L. Ray Amodt

November 27, 1936 — January 8, 2022

St. George, Utah

Leonard Ray Amodt, age 85, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 8, 2022 in St George, Utah. He was born November 27, 1936, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Clarence & Lillian Pearl Amodt. He married Susan Carol Eynon on March 29, 1970. They celebrated 50 years of marriage last year.

Ray graduated from West High School and eventually moved to Southern California, where he worked for 7-Up. His “baby son” Dave was born while they lived in Yucca Valley. When Ray’s father passed away in SLC, Ray stopped in St George, Utah, to spend a night. He ended up calling Sue and told her that St George was going to be their new home. He became a partner with St George Plumbing and then eventually started Southwest Air Conditioning. Many of the local HVAC companies in Washington County got their start by working for and learning from Ray. Ray was honest and had integrity. He had many, many loyal customers and contractors.

Ray enjoyed photography and taught Dave everything about it, including building a darkroom in their basement on Oleander Circle in Bloomington Hills. He also enjoyed taking Dave to the dirt bike races when Dave was a kid. Ray also enjoyed golf, riding his Harley, and spending summers at their cabin in Marysvale, Utah, where they would ride ATVs and have lots of fun. He traveled to many places around the world through incentive trips as a Trane Dealer.

Ray loved beer, chocolate ice cream and cake, and football; but more than that, he loved his wife and family. He always took good care of Sue, and gave her a wonderful life. He was so proud of Dave, and always enjoyed hearing about all of Dave’s hobbies and interests. Ray was a special father-in-law (father-in-love) to Misty, and treated her so tenderly. His two granddaughters, Sara and Angileza, could do no wrong - he loved them immensely. He was very pleased that Angileza married Matthew. He knew that Matt would take care of his little granddaughter.

Ray is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Susan; his “baby son” Dave; his daughter-in- law, Misty; his granddaughters, Sara Amodt and Angileza Hansen; and his grandson-in-law, Matthew Hansen. He is also survived by his two “girls”, Mia & Bella. They protected him from whoever came to the door. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, and his in- laws.
