Leon Grover

October 7, 1937 — June 12, 2022

St. George, Utah

Leon R Grover passed away peacefully at his home in St George, Utah, Sunday evening, June 12, 2022, surrounded by his sweet wife and adoring children.

Leon was born on October 7, 1937, in East Garland Utah to Clifton and Vera Grover. He was the 5th of 9 children. In 1948, he moved with his family to Palmer Alaska where they lived on a dairy farm, in the shadows of Pioneer Peak.

Leon served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the New England Mission. After he returned home, he married his sweetheart, Jacqueline Irene Binks, on January 15, 1960, in the Manti, Utah temple. They are the parents of 8 wonderful children, who gave them 42 grandchildren, and 51 great-grandchildren whom they dearly love.

Leon received his bachelor’s degree from Utah State University and his master’s from BYU. He taught Seminary & Institute of Religion for 32 years and was affectionately known as “Brother Grover” to thousands and thousands of students. His teaching wasn’t limited to the classroom. With his ability to teach and tell stories, he influenced many people for the good.

His employment took him to Mesa Arizona, Globe Arizona, Tucson Arizona, Powell Wyoming, and Ballard Utah. After retiring from teaching, Leon & Jackie moved to St George Utah where they have enjoyed many years of good weather, good friends and being near family.

Leon showed his love for his family in everything he did. He taught his children to work by working alongside them. He taught them the gospel by living the way he taught. He taught the importance of family by spending time with them.

Leon was devoted to church service. In addition to being a religion teacher, he served in many positions in the Church including branch president and bishop. Leon and Jackie served as temple ordinance workers in both the Vernal and St George temples. They also served a mission in the St George Visitor Center & Historic Sites Mission.

Those that knew Leon, know that he was hard working and very creative. He spent a lot of time outdoors, working in the yard, gardening, and raising animals. He had a talent for drawing, painting, and beautiful handwriting. He loved music, and his guitar was never far away.

Leon is survived by his wife, Jacqueline; children, Thayne (Amy), Launa (Dan) Wyson, Jeri (Mark) McKay, Liesle (Travis) Hendrickson, Susan (Shane) Carter, Sherese (Craig) Peterson, and Stephanie Coleman
