Lonnell “Lonnie” Pebworth of Central, Utah, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2022, at the age of 83. He was born on November 12, 1938, in Whittier, California, to Lonnie Zelma Pebworth and Juanita Pebworth.
Lonnie joined the Air Force after high school. He hoped to make it his career but developed Rheumatic fever that ultimately led to an honorable discharge. Lonnie then raced on the Nascar circuit for many years, becoming one of the top drivers on the West Coast in the 1970s. He later used his natural talent as an electrician to build a successful career working for General Motors. After almost thirty years with the company, he retired and he and his wife moved to Central, Utah, to be close to family.
During retirement Lonnie enjoyed volunteering with the Central Culinary Water Company. He was also fond of driving his Jeep around southern Utah listening to the radio and taking in the scenery.
Lonnie knew his greatest accomplishment was the family he built with his wife, LaVon. They had just celebrated their fifty-first wedding anniversary on February 6. He was a proud father to four children who loved him very much, and a devoted grandfather to fourteen grandchildren who adored everything about him.
He is survived by his wife, LaVon Pebworth; his children, Laurie (Shane) Demirjian, Lonnie (Kassie) Pebworth, Lynae (Joseph) Burgess, Logan (Mindy) Pebworth; fourteen grandchildren; and his sister Trudy Conrad.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Harvey Pebworth and James Pebworth; and his sister, Charlotte Rodrigues.
A private family service will be held at the Central Cemetery.
