Raymond "Phil" Sherman

Raymond Phillips Sherman “Phil”, age 85, passed away on June 24, 2021 at Autumn Park Assisted Living in Washington, Utah.  Phil was born in Madison, Indiana on June 10, 1936 to Raymond C. Sherman and Fay (Long) Sherman.  He lived there for the first 63 years of his life and was awarded the Community Service Award by the Chamber of Commerce in 1996 for his outstanding commitment to the community and the many nonprofit organizations on which he served as a member, director and President.  Phil graduated from Indiana University in 1958 with a degree in Accounting.  He went on to obtain his CPA certificate.  When he retired in 1999, he was the senior partner in the firm Sherman, Barber & Mullikin, CPAs.   Phil wrote 7 courses for the AICPA and taught those and others for a total of 22 years receiving the Outstanding Discussion Leader Award.

Phil was married to his wife Sue Ellen (Gilbert) Sherman in 1975 in Indianapolis, Indiana. They moved to Leeds, Utah in 1999 where they enjoyed hiking, exploring, tennis and travel. They visited all 50 states and took 27 cruises together visiting ports on 6 continents. Phil served on the board and as President of Habitat for Humanity in St. George and also serviced on the board of The Silver Reef Museum.

Phil is survived by his wife Sue of Leeds, Utah, his son David R. Sherman and his wife Jenny of Westfield, Indiana, his daughter Susan M. Laurent and her husband Tim of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and his son Joshua R. Sherman and his fiancé Lilian of Austin, Texas, and six grandchildren Bret and Kailey Sherman, Jacob, Sarah, Chase and Quinn Laurent.  He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Joanna M. Sherman.

There are no plans for a service but expressions of sympathy through donations can be made to Memory Matters of Utah, 168 North 100 East #104, St. George, Utah 84770.
