Roger Lionel Pugmire
Roger Lionel Pugmire, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and former Denver temple president, passed away 20 June 2020 at age 88 after a four year battle with a lung disease. He was born 13 Jan 1932 to Lionel Pugmire and Esther Rheva Brown Pugmire. He married Joanne Thompson in Salt Lake City, UT on 29 Aug 1957.
Roger lived in Salt Lake City until he was 12 years old, making frequent trips to work on the family farms in Bear Lake, ID. He then moved with his family to Yakima, WA. He earned his Eagle Scout Award there and graduated from Yakima Sr. High. He attended Yakima Jr. College on a basketball scholarship, and then graduated from Washington State University in Pullman. He served in the Army, stationed in Kaiserslautern, Germany, and was awarded the Good Conduct medal. He attended Brigham Young University for graduate school where he met his future wife, Joanne Thompson. He was fortunate to travel throughout Europe, Israel, Egypt, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Panama Canal, Hawaii, Alaska, and the United States. Some of his favorite trips were ones that involved fishing. His professional life was spent working for Conoco and involved much traveling throughout the U.S. including moving with his family from Salt Lake City, UT to Moscow, ID; Spokane, WA; Billings, MT; and Littleton, CO. After retiring at age 53, he continued to work in various volunteer capacities with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including serving as temple president for the Denver Colorado Temple. He was well respected in his professional, church, and family life, and had a reputation for integrity and fairness, being hard-working, fun-loving, having a sense of humor and playing a mean hand in family card games. He is greatly loved and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne Thompson Pugmire; children: Bonnie Pugmire Wetherbee (Dan), Parker, CO; Steven Lionel Pugmire (Heidi), Lindon, UT; and Shawna Jane Pugmire, Colorado Springs, CO; nine granddaughters, twelve great-grandchildren, and a sister, Barbara Lewis.
A family memorial service will be held at the Larkin Sunset Lawn Memorial Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, June 25, 2020 held at 12:00pm at the the Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 E. 1300 S., Salt Lake City, Utah. Other friends and family are welcome to attend the interment.
