Ronald "Ron" Ellett

July 26, 1957 — August 13, 2022

Ivins, Utah

Ronald “Ron” ReVon Ellett, 65, passed away on August 13, 2022, in Ivins, Utah from Glioblastoma, an aggressive brain tumor. He was born July 26, 1957, in Richfield, Utah. He was the oldest of four children to ReVon B. Ellett and Elva Albrecht Ellett.

His early life was spent in Wayne County, Utah. At the age of 5, his family moved to Henderson, Nevada. In 1968, at the age of 11 they moved to St. George, Utah where his family bought the Red Bluff Motel which is currently 500 North Bluff Street. Ron attended Dixie High School and graduated in 1975.

He then served an LDS mission from 1976-1978 in Seattle, Washington. While on his mission his parents rented his room in their home to a girl named Julie Leavitt. They began to write letters, and within a few days of returning home from his mission they were engaged. On November 24, 1978, they were sealed for time and all eternity in the St. George LDS Temple.

In 1979, the Ellett family built the Dixie Lube Center which was located at 700 South Bluff. The business was owned and operated with his dad, brother, & brother-in-law for over 20 years.

In 1980, Ron and Julie built their forever home in Ivins, Utah, and there they raised their four children. Ron loved Ivins and loved to serve the community he lived in. He gave 31 years of service to the Ivins fire department, and made many lifelong friendships that he treasured deeply.

Ron spent a lifetime serving in the Boy Scouts program.  In his youth he earned the Eagle Scout award.  He loved to help young men strive and work hard to receive this award.  He found joy in serving the Young Men.  He often spent his summer vacations taking young men on week-long camping trips.  He was awarded the District Award of Merit as well as the distinguished service award known as the Silver Beaver.

Ron loved spending time with Julie, his children, and grandchildren. His favorite was to have everyone over, cook food, and watch the grandkids run wild from his patio.

Ron was always looking for his next wood haul. He loved to go out with his kids and grandkids to harvest timber and bring it home to split. When introduced to Youtube TV he found all the wood hauling shows and loved watching them. They were right up there with his love for game shows.

Ron was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and held many callings throughout the years. If you found Ron at church he always had a pocket full of candy, and all the kids knew they could find their favorite treat if they found him. His current calling alongside Julie was at the Ivins Veterans Home Branch. He loved the members of this branch and spoke of them often.

On May 2, he was diagnosed with a Glioblastoma and made the decision to forego treatment so that he could live out his last days surrounded by family. He made a bucket list of what he wanted to accomplish, and he checked off all items on his list. He bravely faced this illness and even during the hardest times, he never lost his sense of humor.

At the time of diagnosis he worked for Vista Charter School as one of the school bus drivers. His eyes would light up as he told stories about the children on the bus. Each of the kids had a special place in his heart.

Ron is survived by his wife Julie, of Ivins, Utah, his four children: Royce Ronald Ellett (Mindy) of Pocatello, Idaho. Amber Studley (Jaron) of Ivins, Utah. Megan Hicks (David) of Smithfield, Utah. Kevan Owen Ellett (Robyn) of Ivins, Utah. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; Royce (Macey, Travis, and Tate), Amber (Tailor, Mitch, and Reagan), Megan (Camron), Kevan (Austin, and Boston). His brother Douglas (Beth) Ellett of St. George, Utah, and his sister Pauline (Scott) Bale of St. George, Utah. He is preceded in death by his parents, ReVon and Elva, his sister Diane, his nephew, Clint Ellett, and his in-laws, Owen and Gloria Leavitt, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
